What people are saying about MEND.

  • "We have been able to keep our house in Leavenworth with rental help. The emergency assistance program has helped pay for our electric so it would not be shut off. Community Cupboard has helped with food and Christmas presents for my kids and school supplies. Without all of that help, we would have been in a really bad way. Thanks to all."

    — Sarah C.

  • "MEND began as a grass-roots effort in our community and has grown and expanded to become a true example of people helping people in so many ways! From the Community Cupboard and the Upper Valley Free Clinic to Cornerstone Adult Home and the Share Land Trust, MEND is a real example of community building that includes people from all walks of life helping people from all walks of life. We can truly be proud of all of the ways that MEND has helped to shape Leavenworth."

    — Cheri Kelley Farivar, Former Leavenworth Mayor

  • “I am able to help feed myself and my grandchildren who live with me. You are very nice people down here and I’m thankful for the holiday dinner. I can’t imagine not having you in my community.”

    — Cheryl S.

  • “The Arc of the Universe, it is said, bends toward love, inclusion and economic justice. When we head this way, she has our back. When we choose otherwise, we simply have forgotten who we were created to be. Upper Valley MEND is an antidote to this amnesia. Without it, things would fall out of kilter. What would we do without this pressure release valve, this avenue of redistribution?”

  • “First of all, I have to say that Upper Valley MEND is the greatest thing to happen to low income households in this region, ever. They provide so many resources that our local government doesn't including the Food Bank, low income housing, emergency assistance, assisted living for adults with special needs, the only thrift store in the area, free weekly health clinics, occasional free dental clinics, and more. I worked for MEND a few years ago helping run their gleaning program, which is one of a couple programs they run that benefits food banks throughout both Chelan and Douglas counties! They rock!"
