Programs & Initiatives
Upper Valley MEND consists of the following programs:
|
THE COMMUNITY CUPBOARD is the oldest of Upper Valley MEND's programs. Started as a food bank by area churches in 1983, the Cupboard has grown in both size and services over the years. Today, the Cupboard is a food bank, thrift store, and resource for Emergency Assistance for residents of the Upper Valley. The Cupboard is sustained by donations of food, merchandise, and volunteer hours, as well as financial contributions. |

JUBILEE GLOBAL GIFTS empowers our global and local community. The Fair Trade merchandise sold in the store provides economic opportunity for artisans and farmers in developing countries, and the proceeds benefit the programs of Upper Valley MEND. |
Another initiative that Upper Valley MEND partners with is the Empty Bowls Festival, which is the largest annual fundraiser for the Community Cupboard. This festival is driven entirely by volunteers and guided by the Empty Bowls Committee. Proceeds support the Community Cupboard as well as art education for area youth.
