She chose to paint sea creatures in their water environment to capture the vibrant colors. In her words: “I like to paint sea creatures in their natural states of being: once they leave that environment the color drains out of them. This way people can see how lively and beautiful they naturally are”.
My bowl has an image in the center of a Weedy Sea Dragon, which is a colorful part of the seahorse family usually found in the ocean reefs of Australia. I left the bowl mostly white because I wanted the focus to be on this beautiful and rare creature that most people have never seen or heard about.
Castilia is a full time Art teacher at Cashmere High School. She teaches beginning art to grades 7-10 along with advanced art and ceramics. She enjoys creating her own work of oil and acrylic paintings of vibrant color and design along with some ceramic pieces. Castilia's art is a direct reflection of her ‘inner light’. She enjoys sharing with her viewers what interest her and to encourage others to see the beauty and color that surrounds them.
